TIME TRAVEL

I had the basic idea for this novel for many years, being the apparent impossibility of travelling back in time, if any changes are made in the past. Such changes would alter all subsequent events, including the time traveller’s present. I got over this by only allowing a journey back in time for an invisible observer, who cannot in any way change the world he visits. In this story, the traveller is desperate to know what happened to his mother, who disappeared when he was six years old. Whether he actually makes such a journey is uncertain: it may be that he is getting access to information in some other way. The fact remains that the experience releases him from a cramped and distorted approach to life, enabling him to become a free and fulfilled person for the first time since that terrible afternoon when he lost his mother.
